THE REFEREE

Foul Detection

SATISFACTORY

Comment...
The referee's foul detection was really good. Several good advantages were played, especially that in the 29th minute, leading to the good action of MCI. The majority of (no-)fouls were correctly identified apart from one situation in which #16MCI was illegally stopped by an opponent in the 45th minute of the match. The only big call to made was to judge whether there was a foul inside the MCI penalty area in the 33rd minute. After watching replays, I can say that both Mark Clattenburg and Simon Beck (especially the latter) missed the very sneaky but strong pulling for the sleeve of #11SWA by #26MCI. That foul resulted in loss the balance and unability to control the ball by the SWA player. With only 1-0 on a scoreboard at the time of the foul, I must consider this referees' oversight as a crucial mistake.
Another situation that should be mentioned is the very alert attitude of Mark Clattenburg who very quickly reacted on the dangerously looking collision inside the SWA penalty area in the 56th minute of the game. #19SWA made a fully legal clearance, jumping to the ball before #16MCI who bumped into a defender's hip with a head. Luckily, nothing bad happened and MCI player could've continued the play.

Positioning

SATISFACTORY

Comment...
The referee's positioning was good in most parts of the game, resulting in him having a good view of play. However, there was one occasion where the referee could have been better positioned in the above mentioned situation in the 33rd minute and missed foul inside the penalty area, but honestly speaking it was very difficult to detect.

Man Management

GOOD

Comment...
The referee was seen to be talking to players regularly during the course of the match. Mark Clattenburg spoke to players when required, also at set pieces, explaining what is not allowed to do being part of a wall. Fresh and nice approach were detected throughout.

Card Issuing

GOOD

Comment...
The only yellow card issued by Mark Clattenburg to #16MCI for trying to score with a hand was a bit harsh but defendable call (48').

Fitness

GOOD

Comment...
The referee's fitness was of a good standard. No problems detected.

THE ASSISTANT REFEREES

Assistant 1 - GOOD [8.4]
Assistant 2 - SATISFACTORY [7.9]

Comment...
Gary Beswick was right in several (non-)offside situations. He offered a good assistance all the game. The same counts for Simon Beck, however he missed the pulling in the box in 33rd minute that should've resulted in penalty kick for Swansea - no help in this single situation led to the crucial mistake.
